The pyramid, or piramide in Italian, is a shape that throughout human history has symbolized stability and permanence, alongside inspiration and enlightenment. In traditional Marche architecture certain buildings were given a unique pyramid-shaped roof, a style that set such buildings apart from more mundane structures. Between the highly desirable hill towns of Sarnano and Amandola, there’s a big house, with big views and a big plot that’s got a classic pyramid-shaped roof. It’s a property that embodies the rich symbolism associated with a pyramid. We call this excellent Marche property, Casa Piramide.
We’re always inspired when we find a house in the countryside with a pyramid-shaped roof. It means somebody, some time in the past, was inspired by the place and the setting and decided to honor the new building with that special architectural touch. Casa Piramide lives up to its name. Its size, build quality and structure (newly-built to anti-seismic standards around 25 years ago) are a picture of stability and permanence. Its immersion in a natural setting and its spectacular views are sure to inspire and enlighten you.

You arrive at Casa Piramide via a municipal country road that leads to the white road that is the driveway to the house. On the approach you are mesmerized by the outstanding views and you see for the first time the pyramid-shaped roof. The house itself is quite big, around 450 sqm. arrayed over 3 floors. The exterior stonework, composed of hand-hewn local stone, is very particular. The house is robust and gives off a sense of strength. It sits on a knoll, commanding the countryside that surrounds it, extending out to the mountains to the south. The views are literally 360º. The plot is big and there’s also a cottage/guest house with a garage.
You enter Casa Piramide through a sort of alcove with a two-panel front entry door. The foyer is spacious and bright. You are immediately struck by the lounge area. This living room space is big, open-plan and full of light. Whoever designed the building is to be commended for the four window and door openings on the view-facing wall. From every point in this sizable room you’ll be inspired by the views and the natural light. There’s an enormous fireplace, a built-in book shelf spanning an entire wall and a step up to another lounge section of the larger room, it, too, with two over-sized windows that contribute to the light and openness of this floor. This room is of such a size that you could easily have a formal dining table here. Note that there is easy access from this room to the garden space, including the area where you might put a pool in the future.
From this impressive lounge area you traverse the foyer to arrive at the kitchen and utility areas. The kitchen, is very simple and basic. Admittedly, for many it may need an upgrade. The good news is that there is ample space to accommodate one. Also here is a big informal dining area. Just off the dining area is a spacious multi-use room that could be used for storage, as a larder/pantry, as an overflow bedroom, as an office or a gym – you decide. Finally, there is a utility bathroom (WC) and a door that exits to the garden area, allowing you to return from walks, bike rides or gardening without tracking dirt through the house proper.
Heading upstairs at Casa Piramide we arrive at a big, spacious landing. This space could easily be fitted out for home office, for example, as it’s that big. Off this landing are 4-5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. This amount of space means Casa Piramide is ideal for holiday use or full-time residence. It’s also well suited to whole-house rentals. Or, with you using the cottage, you could operate the main house as a B&B. Casa Piramide is also a great candidate for joint-ownership by a couple of families, or with a close relative or business associate.
Casa Piramide’s bedrooms and bathrooms align as follows…there are three bedrooms each of a good size, along with a 4th that’s a bit smaller. One of the bigger bedrooms has an anteroom with another bedroom space – ideal for small children or for extra space when the house is full of family and friends. Hence, we say the house has 4-5 bedrooms (plus the cottage bedroom and the multi-use space off the kitchen). Sleeping family and friends here is never a problem. What is particularly nice about this setup is that 3 of the bedrooms are ensuite, with their own bathrooms! And, there’s a spacious family bathroom on this floor as well.
A nice “bonus” space at Casa Piramide is the huge semi-interred floor that has the same footprint as the two main living floors. The owners have used half of this floor as a recreation space with a billiards table, ping-pong table and other games. The other half is used for general storage and a wood store. There’s also a laundry room on this floor.
Another great “bonus” at Casa Piramide is the cottage, a two-story building of around 68 sqm. that’s arrayed as follows – 1 bedroom, living/dining room/kitchen with a bathroom on the main floor. Under the living space is a very useful garage.
The plot at Casa Piramide is impressive. There are 10+ hectares of land. Part of this is the courtyard surrounding the house and leading to the cottage…it’s mostly flat lawn space with numerous shade trees. The rest of the plot is a mix of woodland and agricultural land. All told, you are in direct contact with nature in a peaceful, relaxed setting ideal for unplugging from the more stressful world in which we live. Maybe the hardest decision you’ll have at Casa Piramide is where to place a pool, should you desire one, as the plot affords you any number of excellent options.
The views at Casa Piramide are outstanding, really best-in-class. Full-on and panoramic views of the Sibillini Mountains and all the fields and hillsides that roll out to them. The vibrant hill-town of Sarnano is clearly visible in the view and from another side of the plot you see the towers of hill towns San Ginesio and Gualdo. We once met an old-timer who sagely told us, “you can build almost anything, but you can’t build a view”..those words come to mind here at Casa Piramide…you might want to change or add to a few things, but there’s no denying you’re starting with an enviable, remarkable view!
With all this peace and quiet it’s no wonder that you might never leave Casa Piramide. But, we encourage you to do so as the house is ideally located for enjoying Le Marche to the fullest. You are between two great towns loved by all – active/vibrant Sarnano and elegant/classic Amandola. All manner of shopping and services is within easy reach, in around 10 minutes in either direction. You’re also very close to Monte San Martino a small hill-town known for its hospitality. Also nearby is the San Ruffino Lake where you can enjoy a refreshing swim as well as a meal lakeside at any of the restaurants there. Casa Piramide is around 35-40 minutes from three elegant provincial capital cities – Macerata, Ascoli Piceno and Fermo… 50 minutes from the Adriatic Coast and 25 minutes to the Sibillini Mountains. Airports to consider for arrival include Ancona, Perugia and Pescara, as well as Rome and Bologna.
So, we started with the imagery of a pyramid, inspiring and enlightening people for thousands of years. We end in a peaceful corner of Le Marche with Casa Piramide, the house that’s sure to do the same for you!
